Since its inception, Kumho Electric, Inc., has made lighting efficiency an integral part of its research & development. This has resulted in products that are not only innovative and reliable, but also good for the environment.
Same Brilliant Light – A Lot Less Energy
The lighting industry has answered the call for energy efficiency by developing products that provide more luminosity per unit of energy. Typically it achieves fluorescent lamp efficiencies of 100 lumens per watt. Kumho is manufacturing lamps with efficiencies of over 110 lumens per watt. How do we do it? One of the benefits of being a multi-facetted lighting manufacturer is the ability to use cross-over technologies. In this case, drawing on developments from our Back Lit Unit (BLU) and applying them to linear fluorescent lighting. Kumho is alone in increasing efficiencies by over 10%.
Well Being
Since early 2006, Kumho has received the “Well Being” certification”. While this is only one of many awards and recognitions, it is especially significant to us as it summarizes the Kumho approach: products that are environmentally conscious, but also superior in quality and take into account health, environment and the customer’s desire for harmony in life. This is awarded after careful evaluation by an independent third party in Korea, and represents benefits for consumers around the world.
Low Mercury Products
This is another piece of the environmental story where Kumho has shown commitment and leadership. Recognizing the potentially harmful effects of mercury, we have kept our research and development focus on producing lamps that use less mercury – offering one of the widest arrays in fluorescent and induction lighting in the market today.

Kumho’s commitment to the environment has been acknowledged with the following awards:
- July, 2007 – “Winner, Energy Award, 2008” in the category of Green Lighting and Equipment, for its high energy saving product, the UX 45W lamp.
- July, 2007 – Korean Standard-Quality Excellence Index, awarded by the Korean Management Association
- July, 2006 – “Winner, Energy Award 2007”, Green Lighting & Equipment – Kumho is given this recognition for its High Brightness CCFL Exit Sign (KEM*KEP130) and for its Energy Saving Activities by ESCO, a business venture that pays for investment in energy-saving technologies.
- January, 2006 – Well Being Certification, awarded by the Korean Management Association Registration & Assessments Inc. for Kumho’s low-mercury, environmentally friendly products UX FPL 32W, UX FPL 45W, P-TYPE FL Lamps(FPL27W, 36W, 32W, 55W).
- August, 2005 – “Winner, Energy Award 2006”, an award by the Consumers Korea, the consultative NGO association of UNESCAP (United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific). This prize was given to the company which produces the highest efficiency and the most energy-saving product. Kumho was awarded this prize for its UX 32W lamp.
- Apr. 2005 - Kumho is awarded ISO 14001 certification, an international recognition for high standard in environmental management. With this certification, the ISO committee acknowledged Kumho’s products as environmentally-friendly and contributing to environmental improvement.
- Oct. 2004 – Kumho wins 2004 Korean Standards Grand Prize, awarded by the Korean Standards Association for its fluorescent lamp line.
- Nov. 2001 – Winner, Energy Grand Prize. This prize is awarded by the Korea Management Association in recognition of companies that continuously carry out R&D activities which result in excellent value-added, high-energy efficiency products to significantly reduce power consumption. Kumho won this award for its T8 32W Fluorescent lamp
- July 1997 - Kumho obtains the certification of "High-efficiency Energy products"
